Yesterday was the worst Super Bowl ever. The Rams only scored three points the entire game and that came tword the end of the third quarter tying the score up at 3 to 3. The game was so boring I fell asleep during the fourth quarter and missed the lone Patriots touchdown. But I was alert during the final few minutes when the Patriots had to decide whether to hold on to the ball and make one yard on fourth down or else kick the field goal and put the game out of reach 13 to 3. They kicked the field goal and the Rams failed. The halftime show had too many visual effects and not enough tallent. Now the Patriots have won six superbowls out of the nine games they've been in since 2001.
.The employment numbers are bogus. They claimed we added over three hundred thousand jobs in the month of January. This would be a very robust rate. The unemployment figure itself went up to 4.0 percent. My guess is that we'll never see 3.7% again. Trump accused Obama of putting out bogus employment numbers. I say that Trump's figures are bogus.
Thom Hartman was talking about Calvinism
yesterday. The Calvary Chapels use the
adage of Dr Phil of “the best prediction of future actions is past action”. The Calvary people change that to “The best
indication of future success is past success” and if you don’t have some sort
of success “track record” they won’t trust you.
I found this out in 1980 when I had the twin whammys of looking for an
account job and also trying to get success on my book. If you don’t have “the favor of the Lord”
then they won’t trust you. Hartman says
that rich people can be trusted as a ruler of the people because they’re
already successful. This may explain the
conservative’s embrace of President Trump and cause even people like Judy to
make excuse after excuse for the President’s action. Other Dr Phil phrases are one I change to
“You don’t miss church; you miss what you wish church was”. And the other key phrase is “How’s that
working for you”. Some of Dr Phil’s
catch phrases are lethal weapons in the hand of the opposition against
evangelicals in ways he never intended.
But I’m not sure whether Calvin himself had this “benign neglect” doctrine
of the poor and down and out. From what
I know of Calvin, he wanted to raise the living standards and environment of
everybody.
I turned on Joel Olsteen at
five thirty and I didn’t like his topic of not comparing yourself to others who
have had successes in their lives. I
think this “Don’t compare yourself to others” is one of the biggest lies
spawned in the pit of Hell. It’s not
just the other person but in my case it’s people like Paul and Judy and parents
that are the “Samuels” in my life out there wagging their long fingers. We all bring our own backgrounds to a speech we listen to.
This whole case with
Democratic Virginia Ralph Northam is political correctness gone amuck. He had a picture in a college yearbook of a
guy in black face and next to him was a guy in a KKK uniform. OK it’s a little stupid but it isn’t a
criminal offence. He was in his early
twenties at the time and this was back in 1984.
He’s apologized profusely for the offence but these political
correctness people are out for blood and want him to resign. He was duly elected and if they felt this way
they should have brought it up during the campaign. It’s the guy’s abortion stance that is much
more suspect. He believes in “post
birth” abortions where a baby is born at 23 weeks and is alive and then “There
can be a conversation between the mother and her doctor as to whether to kill
the baby or not”. That line is more than
a little sick. There is this whole fast
scroll of democratic names they had of people specifying that this governor
needs to resign now. The only two names
that were not on the list were former president Obama, who seems to back off
from these conversations about race that crop up, and the other one is the
liutennant governor of Virginia who would take his place. This is a 39 year old Black man and the media
wasted no time in saying what a bright political carrier he had, possibly at
his superior’s expense. This “zero
tolerance” bit doesn’t work for weapons (such as plastic knives to spread your
cream cheese at lunch) or for drugs, and it doesn’t work for this case
either.
I’m too cowed by the
Patriots to bet money on this game. As
you know my rule for betting goes that you bet favorites for football and long
shots for horse racing. There is just so
much stuff in the news about that an indomitable guy Thom Brady is and how at
age 41 there is just no end in sight to his string of successes. He’s been in nine super bowls and apparently
has already won five times. That has to
be an all time record. They mention how
he was drafted in the tenth round or something and given a low ranking his
first year. But then the quarterback
they had got injured and Tom Brady filled in in 2001 and he never looked
back. I don’t like it that President
Trump is a backer of Brady. Someone said
that everyone in the country is routing for the LA Rams unless you’re either
from New England, or St Louis, or New Orleans.
